Is not about the students and affordable education anymore in Texas anymore. Texas public universities complain that they are really not state funded by much anymore. A Texas university administrator in a parent new student orientation said so. They beg for money all the time from their graduates yet they take this money to do DEI. Texas is a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde state. On one hand they have common sense then there is a flip side to undo the common sense. Self defeating. So it isn’t surprising that U of Texas spent exorbitant amounts that could have been used for scholarships for students because the cost of an education in Texas public universities have gone up exponentially over the last 20 years and still climbing.
With as much money they take in from federal agencies and foreign governments, students should have free access to their education programs at these universities. Why do federal agencies need to fund in the millions these programs that provide no real education or training. Money blown on ridiculous salaries for inept officials with fancy titles offering nothing in return but activism.
OTB, how many people of color, women and LGBT people work for you? After centuries of racism and sexism, DEI is a good policy unless OTB would prefer another civil war. More to the point, Ohio State and UT do appear to be spending a great deal more than other educational institutions, however, OTB's conclusions are quite reactionary. Additionally, Ohio State and UT do somethings better and somethings worse than other public and private schools. The OTB group, much like Fox News and much of the corporate media continually focus and blame the victims. The greedy bunch: Elon, Jeff, Larry and Mark, Vivek, and Miriam, etc., don't want change and will never fund policies and programs for the masses. Please readers: Vote Democratic Socialist and stop OTB and the ultra-rich class from destroying the planet, funding endless wars and denying universal health care and a living wage.
Doesn’t UT and A&M get most of it’s money from west Texas oil bequeathed to them? I looked it up. The Permanent University Fund. Sure Jimbo Fisher drained the coffers quite a bit. But neither should receive a nickel of Federal taxes. Foreign funding? Any school that receives such should get the RT treatment.
I am glad that UT is working to increase women and minorities in their engineering programs. This is a GOOD thing, not something to criticize. Elon Musk claims that we have to increase visas because there are not enough “smart” Americans. UT is trying to increase engineers. That is a GOOD thing.
The DEI spending was expected, but eye-opener was concerning UT's foreign supporters and the programs for establishing foreign students in corporate positions in the U.S. Didn't realize UT directors were so global-minded.

Academia needs a nuclear-enema.

All this HUGE amount of money flowing into the universities. Where does it all go? And why does tuition cost so much???

Passed to students, yes, BUT MY taxes also go to this bee ese.
All this DEI nonsense is passed on through higher tuition costs for the students.
