I am disgusted to learn of this Fascist movement throughout our universities and that little or nothing has been done to stop any funding nor make it widespread knowledge for all parents and donors. This type of outrageous attack on our President and others needed to be nationwide knowledge broadcast throughout the world and shut out and shut down.

Subject: Mend your ways for the common good of Americans

I am an 86 year old senior citizen with a graduate degree from Tulane University and retired from a successful 35 year career in the computer industry.

During my time at Tulane, the administration would have never allowed the disruptive protests that interfered with academic life that we all have witnessed recently.

You have abandoned your mission's commitment to "ensure higher education's contribution to the common good" by being too political and not using plain common sense in regards to the current duly elected US administration.

It's high time for yours and every organization to act internally to reduce waste and fraud in spending and support the federal and state governments in doing the same.

It's time to stop your incendiary remarks throughout your website and initiatives and to be more supportive of common sense actions to get our federal government to spend within its income, as every American has to do.

It's time you support teaching and enforcement of our laws on immigration. Illegal Alien is the proper term. It is a criminal act to enter the US without following our immigration laws. This has been tolerated long enough.

It's time you support common sense prohibition, prevention of and swift enforcement of violence against persons or property in regards to politically divisive issues on campuses.

AAUP leadership and members should not advocate, support or encourage campus demonstrations of takeovers that rally for terrorists of any persuasion.

To do so is treasonous in my opinion.

It's time you encourage teaching and speaking truthfully about Palestine, with its leadership by avowed terrorists starting with Yasser Arafat, who objected to the creation of Israel in 1948 through Fatah, PLO to the current Hamas. Palestinians have been brainwashed for three quarters of a century into believing that Jews must be annihilated. Hamas is the worst incarnation of this hatred.

Changing this mind-lock ingrained in Palestine's people is a daunting task of reeducation.

For Palestinians to be liberated, they must reject Hamas, elect peace minded leaders, and work out a peaceful coexistence with Israel and the rest of the world.

Traitors, plain and simple. They will be out-voted in '26 and '28. These enemies of the state train the young to be traitors also. They're marxists.

Perhaps it’s time to eliminate tenure at public funded universities.

University professors, educators and researchers should have the same job security as everyone else, but that shouldn’t include political agitation.

Academic freedom was intended to cover academic pursuits involving research interests and development of hypothesis and theories, but not political activism and protesting.

Those, as in any other job, should be performed on one’s own time and own expense, and shouldn’t be performed on academic and university premises, especially if those are publicly owned facilities.

A few thoughts:

- Parents, don’t let your kids grow up to be university students. And don’t donate to your alma mater.

- Remove 501(c)(3) status from the tax code. “Nonprofit” status distorts everything (including the original “do good” mission of most nonprofits), and corrupts absolutely.

- In the absence of removing 501(c)(3), stop ALL funding from government to NGOs. The very term NGO is laughable, since NGOs then become an incestuous extension of government.

The amounts of money going through the hands or bank accounts of NGO’s is simply ridiculous, especially since many of these organizations are in direct competition with for profit companies, and of the money for managers, executives and staff is exorbitant, and can only be regarded as money laundering.

The entire premise of this article is erroneous. The 6 million dollars come from the voluntary member dues of faculty at public universities. They do not come from taxpayer dollars. What sham reporting.

As a former adjunct prof essor in STEM fields at three colleges and a university, the situation is far worse than what has been uncovered so far by President Trump and DOGE.

The real big secret is that since 1976 via the provisions of the obscure Eilberg Amendment, colleges and universities have maintained the right to hire unlimited numbers of imported professors and researchers. Representative Joshua Eilberg (D-PA) received undisclosed considerations from the Association of American Universities (AAU) to make this change in immigration law via the H-1 Visa that boosted the profit margin of those institutions - and converted a STEM Ph.D. for most middle-class Americans into an accomplishment with negative economic value.

The private sector noted the profit-enhancing potential of the H-1 Visa and demanded a piece of the pie. The controversial H-1b Visa was created in 1990 via the work of Representative Bruce Morrison (D-CT.) This pair of work visa programs has played a significant role in diminishing the economic and military security of the United States during the past 35 years.

I twice testified in the U.S. House of Representatives and twice to the National Academy of Sciences regarding the harms of these work visa programs. I've written extensively about these topics. Given that information regarding the controversial H-1b Visa has earned a top ten ranking in the "most censored news" rankings in past years, you should not be surprised that most of my writings have been obscured via search engine algorithms. On April 16, 2025, there were a mere 73 search results when searching for both phrases "Gene Nelson" and "H-1b", two less than the previous day. Prior to the censorship, there were thousands of results.

On April 14, 1993, The Wall Street Journal published an article by G. Pascal Zachary titled, "Black Hole Opens in Scientist Job Rolls" regarding the dismal employment prospects for American citizen holders of STEM Ph.D.s, including myself. This article is no longer available. You may obtain a copy by emailing me at government [at] CGNP [dot] org.

In 2002, Nobel Economics Laureate Milton Friedman dubbed the H-1b Visa a "government subsidy" program as it allowed employers to obtain higher-skilled workers at below-market prices. Here's a link to the article. https://www.computerworld.com/article/1329178/h-1b-is-just-another-gov-t-subsidy.html

The curious part to the story is that the author Paul Donnelly works with the former U.S. Representative Bruce Morrison to advocate for liberalization of the controversial H-1b Visa. Here's an Open Secrets link to Morrison Public Affairs Group: https://www.opensecrets.org/federal-lobbying/firms/summary?cycle=2020&id=D000036017

Whle true they do give people such as my friend an avenue to work -for much less pay than citizens- to become citizens. It took him 10 Yrs. to work traveling the world to repair sensitive computer equipment for a high end corp. to save the $10K, learn the Constitution better than most citizens and then pass the test to become a citizens of which he is SO Proud ! It seems so unfair that Corp. are allowed to pay so much less for someone willing to work for years to become a citizen. There has to be a better system than this or serving in the military which I absolutely detest letting a non-citizen to serve in such a dangerous situation. We've already seen how it has led to deaths of our young men & women. DOGE must do an in-depth analysis of this mess.

Apparently, the odious indenture provisions for the H-1b work visa (to be held by the employer) were designed by a lobbyist named Harris Miller. To learn more, please search for both phrases, "Harris Miller" and "H-1b." There were 110 results on April 18, 2025. Previously, Harris Miller lobbied for work visas for imported agricultural workers that also tied them to the employer.

This has been going on for a long time and is the business model of all universities, colleges, educational institutions, private business and government agencies into United States.

It enables maximum profits, minimal expense, zero upward mobility, and has turned tech educated individuals with high knowledge base into day laborers, indeed reaching the point where an education in some STEM fields has become a liability rather than an asset, people being noted to be “overqualified” for many, if not ordinary occupations, meanwhile the cost of education keeps going up with increasing debt burden, while administration, executives and management get the jobs, benefits, upward mobility and even job security.

AI is likely to accelerate this situation rather than diminish it.

The lawmakers, congressmen, executives, even judiciary, have been captured by the lobbyists, who are paid gigantic amounts to assure this program continues.

I appreciate Dr. Gene Nelson’s efforts at exposing the detrimental effects these visas have on the American Working Class, and rest assured, these STEM fields have transitioned into working class status on a day by day basis.

With the understanding that these fields are at the heart of the American Security State can not be emphasized enough.

Thank you Doctor Nelson. Sincere thanks. Your post above is an example of what accurate detailing on an issue is suppose to look like. Information, details , facts written with little to zero emotion and punctuation and grammar being of a high standard. Contrast this to what has been on display in many campuses with many educators resorting to entertainment industry methods full of emotions and sometimes political views so as to capture the brief attention span of those locked into their laptops and phones. Nothing wrong with an entertaining lecture however the details and facts of the subject matter can end up being muddied.

The H1 Visa has been exactly as you stated, high quality talent at a cheaper price. It has also let in numerous individuals with questionable backgrounds or affiliations overseas. Whilst educators from around the globe add much to the US University and College experience and dataset the review of credentials and security clearance requirements need to be strengthened before Visa acquisition. Sadly the ones that suffer most .... are the students, certainly over these past few years where class room interruptions, on campus demonstrations, plus anxiety and fear of threats have been increasing steadily. College or University should be a stimulating environment for discussion, learning and problem solving. Lately it has resembled the Jerry Springer show from the 90's.

Thank you for your endorsement of my scholarship. About three months after 9/11, I learned that the Holy Land Foundation (HLF,) based in Richardson, Texas was using H-1b Visa beneficiaries. There was apparently no vetting. The HLF's assets were seized by the U.S. government since it was a terrorist-supporting entity. Hamas created widows and orphans by the actions of their suicide bombers. The HLF provided funds for the widows and orphans. I creatively disrupted the press conference by Ghassan Alashi the day after the HLF's assets were seized. Search for both phrases "Holy Land Foundation" and "Gene Nelson" to view the Getty Images photograph of me glowering at one of the HLF supporters after my creative disruption. Ghassan was eventually imprisoned for his actions.
