Well, dang it! I swore off politics and intrigue this morning -- celebrating my son's birthday -- but that's blown now. Tried to look away, but the outrageous spending spree is like watching a wreck on the highway. All I can do is share your report to social media sites I follow. I shouldn't be in the minority with this reaction. (Well written, though. Thanks for the work.)

Beyond belief. The waste

The military should be spending more. If China invaded Taiwan tomorrow, our options would be let them have it or lose a war. We have depleted our inventory of munitions severely supporting Ukraine in its defensive just war against Russia, which agreed (with the US and UK) to respect its borders in the Budapest Memorandum to induce Ukraine to give up the nuclear weapons it owned after the breakup of the Soviet Union. We no longer have the capacity to deter war.

The question is not should we be spending more. We should, but we should also be spending a lot smarter. The DoD's procurement system has been an embarrassment for decades. Let's hope DOGE does some good there.

Without Transparency, There Can Be No Democracy. Having a say in self-governance cannot exist unless the people are allowed to see the actual problems.

We need a new constitution. One 100% written and controlled by the people, using collective intelligence systems to write it.

Would you agree to this?

Delusional. They don't respect the one we have now. You really think they would follow a new one? Every damn thing the government does is unconstitutional.

It isn't delusional if it is being done. You can doubt, but that just means you are aiding them.

Hello OTB comrades! I am not sure how to respond to this DoD report. Something is missing here. Waste and overpriced: yes, what else is new? More spending now, than ever, maybe. However, have you noticed that OTB has no conclusion? For example, defund the military-industrial complex. Where is Eisenhower when you need him? Contrast this with OTB research and conclusion on the public colleges, DEI, excessive spending investigation. This is why I believe that this nonprofit "Transparency" group is primarily promoting the desires of the greed loving upper billionaire class. At the least, OTB can balance their recommendations while exposing wasteful government programs, policies and spending. I do wish I could find fault with the integrity of their meticulous investigation and research. As a lifelong Democratic Socialist, I also would like to minimize waste on behalf of the working and middle classes. But that is another discussion. Bye.

If Democrats are so worried about individuals gaining too much wealth, why are they the wealthier party?

A large use-it-or lose it order on fresh fruit and vegetables with raw lobster tails? Sounds like desperation in a blind date with a self-declared billionaire. Then again, does the use-it-or-lose it mentality go towards armaments, including nuclear war heads? The budgetary waste sounds worse than a communist regime of yesteryear…. Because it’s driven by capitalists who profit from exporting pandemics and destruction. What explosives does the military buy from Canada? Finished product or agricultural inputs (or tainted raw lobster)?… the big spend sounds like a joke that just isn’t funny. How do we calculate inflation on this extra big spending? Aw, right.. just twist the unemployment data and blame lowly consumers now paying relentless debit costs. Shame.

Our military needs to come back and guard the borders. They sit around on bases, doing nothing but waiting for the next meal. I am sure that the enlisted men see little of the gourmet foods. That goes to the officers. No, I don't thank them for their "service".

The lower officers LTs., Majors, have their meals deducted from their pay. When my son was deployed, all his meals were deducted from his paycheck and ate same food as others except in officers’ dining area. I’m sure the top dogs at the Pentagon are the ones eating lobster tails, rib eyes, etc. Those clowns at the Pentagon probably get their make-up covered along with their new uniform skirts and heels.

My niece is a West Point grad. She was deployed several times to the Middle East. She got out of the military. I am sick of the waste and seeing my OWN country invaded. We don't need our military guarding the borders of other countries.

Absolutely agree. Biden’s open borders policy has created much harm and destruction.
