I'm flummoxed as to why there was ANY PPP money sent to ANY company or school in Florida. Our Governor was bragging how Florida was open for business and in fact all the schools were open and children participating in school physically. So where is the justification for any company in Florida to be able to apply for PPP money? This is a major contradiction and should be looked into. Also, I found many schools and companies that had 0 employees. How does that compute?

Is there no way to correct this abuse of the program? Maybe Congress refuses to act because some have become minor partners in these firms via donations. Quite sad and even within the law ought to be unethical.

My recollection of the forms to get the loan were that one had to swear under oath that without the loans employees would be laid off.

I see one employer, in my local, that received the funds, didn't lay off during the height of the pandemic, but is now.

"However, Congress didn’t anticipate that BigLaw and the largest accounting firms would cash in so profitably."

Press X to doubt. These things are always giveaways to the connected because the connected are the only ones who know how to fill out the mountain of paperwork to get the free cash.

There is so much in the news, but information like this should be at the top of front-page news. Your work is outstanding and a piece like this should be shared far and wide.

This is how we are heading to socialism or communism, one step at a time...

Government paying the companies and then the companies have an incentive to be complicit...

Send the check to the individuals for gods sake.

I’ve learned so much through OpenTheBooks.

The PPP is no different than traditional government grant programs. The recipients of grant funds are predetermined and the parameters of the grants are developed to favor those recipients. The grant applications are “open” to anyone, providing the perfect cover for the money to flow to the predetermined recipients. While the ethics are questionable, as long as the recipients fit the parameters of the grant, no laws are being broken.

It was a horribly designed program. I personally got millions of dollars for my customers and none of them suffered any financial difficulties due to Covid shutdowns. They all had to state that they did.

It was intentionally designed that way.

If “none of them suffered” yet “they all had to state that they did” … why is that not fraud?

I think it is terribly unethical, but fraud would be hard to prove. Anyone running a business could claim that they experienced tremendous financial uncertainty due to Covid shutdowns and uncertainty could translate to financial difficulty.

My quick math shows that the HOA I'm a part of received forgiveness of more than enough to cover next year's dues for all homeowners.

Seems to be I should be able to spend it on ammo instead!

This pattern started in California. "Go there" in your mind to the New World Order and envision your life. It IS happening and it's also how Democrats and RINOs think and act. They have *already* been there for years - we're just hearing about it now. (If you hadn't been paying attention, that is.) WAKE UP - this is all PLANNED.

It continues to be a sad reality that we sent out so much money to people without enough oversight about who was getting it and how it was being used. I would be curious to know if there’s any place which actually did it properly and was able to keep it decently under control.

I'll bet they did.

Big Law and large accounting firms drafted the program. Congress approved it and received their share of the grift through campaign donations.
