I’m glad we pay our military so much more… This is an insult to people who put their lives on the line

This is part of the same racket cops and firefighters use to abuse the pension system. The youngest work a minimal set of hours so the the oldest can rack up significant overtime, all so that the oldest can retire (at a relatively young age) on ridiculously inflated pensions that are calculated based on pay + OT in the years leading up to retirement. If you double your regular pay with overtime and you retire on 80% of that pay, you're getting a pension for the rest of your life that's 60% more than your base pay at retirement. And if you retire at 55, you can still get a full-time job all while collecting the pension at the same time.

Ever wonder why 1/3rd of the FDNY retired after 9/11? It's because they racked up such astronomical levels of overtime in the aftermath of that tragedy, that anyone who was able to retire couldn't afford NOT to retire at the massive pensions they were owed based on that overtime. Those are the rules put in place by the democrats that run NY (and CA in the case of the lifeguards). It's a total racket, but do you blame them?
