Reduced budgets do force attention to priorities. Back to basics likely worthwhile. A few then will object as Mr Sanders but it will benefit the whole.
There may be benefits to involving females and minorities in STEM fields but government involvement pushes the issue. Most remain not interested as driven by various peer pressure. Future Madam Curies are rare indeed. No government program inspired her. But we should encourage involvement in early education and work to reduce peer pressure.

The only economic system that can minimize and probably eliminate this is Democratic Socialism. The game being played by groups like: OTB, Libertarians, and Liberals is as old as Capitalism itself. How else could you explain endless wars, depressions, mass genocidal killings, global climate destructions, and obscenely increasing wealth gaps between have and have-nots. By the way, one man's waste is another man's opportunity. It is probably the only way some of the less fortunate may feel they are able to claim anything under this wasteful/corrupt/elitist Capitalist economic system of things. As for your frequent enemies list: DEI and Woke (originally started and better articulated and vilified by billionaires Vivek Ramaswamy and Peter Thiel around 2022 to galvanize the corporate tech elites to earn endless profits, climate be damned), DEI would be unnecessary under a Democratic Socialist economic system.
